When you bump into someone visiting the island and they ask if you’re a local, once you respond “yes,” the first things they ask about are: things to do; best local food; and nightlife. After being asked these questions many, many times, Aslin Leger Sauer decided to create a tour experience that would encapsulate a Virgin Islands experience for those near and far. Aslin grew up on St. Thomas and has taken the charge of offering unique tour experiences that showcase the island’s culinary and cultural scene.
With St. Thomas Food Tours, Aslin set out to create an experience that would allow visitors to taste local food and learn the beautiful history behind each and every bite. She describes it as something like a face-to-face Anthony Bourdain episode from people who can explain it best, local tour guides. Her goals are to expose visitors to the 350-year history of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in a relatable and relaxed environment, and share the rich culture, which includes the music, art and storytelling.
Aslin is a graduate of the Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas. The U.S. Air Force Veteran is proud to have earned her undergraduate degree from the University of the Virgin Islands and her Masters from Central Michigan University, She enjoys entertaining and teaching St. Thomas Food Tours guests and is continuously searching for opportunities to expand her influence and reach.
